Refrigerated Shipping Containers 27’ to 45’ Chiller/Freezer

Refrigerated shipping containers, also referred to as reefers, are insulated intermodal containers equipped with integrated refrigeration units. These units are designed to maintain a precise, controlled internal environment for the transportation and storage of temperature-sensitive cargo. Available in a range of sizes from 27 to 45 feet, these containers provide a mobile solution for preserving product integrity across various sectors .

Key Features

• Adjustable Temperature Control: The integrated refrigeration unit allows operators to set and maintain consistent temperatures. These containers are capable of functioning as a chiller (typically between 0°C to 13°C) or a freezer (typically at or below -18°C), depending on the cargo requirements .

• Forced Airflow System: A bottom-air delivery system circulates cold air throughout the container. This design helps ensure even temperature distribution from the floor upward, preventing warm spots and preserving cargo quality .

• Insulated Construction: Walls are constructed with high-grade insulation materials to minimize heat leakage. This thermal efficiency reduces the workload on the refrigeration unit and supports stable internal conditions .

• Robust External Structure: Built with a durable steel frame and corrosion-resistant materials such as MGSS (Muffler Grade Stainless Steel) and high-grade aluminum flooring, these containers are constructed for repeated use and longevity .

• Microprocessor Control: An integrated microprocessor manages the refrigeration cycle. It monitors internal conditions and stores data relevant to the cargo’s environment during transit .

• Varied Size Options: Offered in lengths from 27 to 45 feet, these units provide flexibility for different volume requirements, from smaller regional shipments to large-scale logistics operations .

Detailed Description

Refrigerated containers serve as a critical component in cold chain logistics, enabling the safe movement of perishable and temperature-sensitive goods across the United States and internationally. Unlike standard dry containers, these units actively manage the internal climate to mitigate spoilage and degradation .

The core function of a reefer container is its sealed cooling cycle. The compressor, condenser, and evaporator work in sequence to remove heat from the insulated interior. The unit forces cold air through the T-shaped floor channels, which then circulates up and through the cargo. This method is essential for maintaining uniform temperatures, particularly for densely packed goods .

These containers are equipped with sophisticated monitoring systems. Sensors track return air temperature, supply air temperature, and humidity levels, providing data that can be accessed to verify that the required conditions are maintained throughout the journey .

The containers listed here are suitable for a variety of applications. They are commonly used for the transportation of food products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, and dairy. Additionally, they are utilized in the pharmaceutical sector for medicines and other health products that require strict temperature regimes . The durable construction also makes them suitable for use as stationary cold storage units at warehouses, distribution centers, or agricultural sites.
